Baumann, M. 2024. Investigation of the bryophyte flora of strict forest reserves (Naturwaldzellen) in Saxony – Part 4: Klosterwiese. – Herzogia 37: 90 –110. The results of the first systematic survey of bryophytes in the strict forest reserve "Klosterwiese" (Saxony federal state, Germany) and of a managed reference site are presented. Both represent a pedunculate oak-hornbeam forest community, which represents the natural forest community on stagnosol in the hilly loess region in Saxony. With a total of 94 species in the strict forest reserve and 84 species in the managed reference site, a very high biodiversity could be determined. The find of Weissia squarrosa is the second record of the species in Saxony. The high diversity of epiphytic bryophytes is particularly remarkable. This focuses on the mixed tree species common ash (Fraxinus excelsior) and sycamore (Acer pseudoplatanus). The endangered species Cryphaea heteromalla, Leucodon sciuroides, Orthotrichum tenellum and Zygodon rupestris were found exclusively on these two host tree species. The distribution and the occurrence of the species on two lying trees illustrates the great importance of the crown area for the diversity of epiphytic bryophytes in deciduous forests.
