The emerging field of biotechnology has made advancements to human health care that have been life changing for many people. One of many examples includes targeted muscle reinnervation (TMR), a procedure designed to enhance prosthetics. With this new biotechnological procedure, severed nerves from amputation are surgically rerouted to control nearby intact muscles. TMR allows users to control their prosthetic using their mind and restores feeling in the amputated limb. This advanced technique has the potential to greatly increase the quality of life of many prosthetic users and holds great promise for the future of prosthetic-related biotechnology.
