Experimental Investigation on Light Transmitting Concrete in M30 Grade Concrete

Construction of high-rise buildings and skyscrapers leads to the obstruction of natural light in buildings.Due to this problem, use of artificial light has increased in large amount.Thus, it becomes necessary to reduce artificial light consumption in structure.This leads to the introduction of innovative concrete, Transparent concrete.Transparent concrete is fiber reinforced concrete which is used for aesthetical application by inserting the optical fibers in concrete.Both natural as well as artificial light passes through the transparent concrete due to optical fibers.The study is not only constrained with the decorative purpose but the effect of fiber application in strength aspect is also discussed.Load carrying capacity of transparent concrete increases when fibers are arranged in different layers and also various pattern can be created to make the concrete decorative.This concrete can be used in interiors of hall, lobby and ceiling to glow in dark by external lighting source and in day time it glows by the light transmission from natural resources.Light-transmitting concrete has the capability of letting light pass through it.It is produced by incorporating optical elements (e.g., optical fibers) into conventional concrete.The mechanical properties and durability of light-transmitting concrete are slightly different from that of conventional concrete because the optical fibers only account for small volume of the concrete.Light-transmitting concrete allows using sunlight as a light source to 30 30 reduce the power consumption of illumination.It also can be used in cold regions to transmit heat with sunlight or act as a decorative material.Light-transmitting concrete can therefore play an important role in both construction and environment fields.The project explained about the nominal mix combination of M30 grade.Silica fume, GGBS and fly ash added by replacing partial amount of Cement.
