Abstract Mobile Peer-to-Peer Networks (MP2PN) are a relatively new paradigm in wireless networks. Their popularity has increased in recent years due to their use in various applications, including decentralized file sharing on the Internet. However, the security of MP2PN remains an open research topic and a major challenge due to their vulnerability to various attacks, such as the black hole attack. In this work, we specifically analyze the Black Hole attack in Mobile Peer-to-Peer Wireless Networks (MP2PWN) using an Ad hoc On-Demand Distance Vector (AODV) routing protocol. In this type of attack, a malicious node impersonates a legitimate node and makes a falsified response with a high sequence number. For this purpose, we have developed an innovative solution to counter this attack, by making changes to the AODV routing protocol. To assess its effectiveness, we conducted extensive simulations.
