The present article addresses the relevance of Time-of-Flight (ToF) sensors for the development of assistive technologies for visually impaired people. It presents the importance of these technologies, followed by how ToF technology works. Furthermore, it discusses applications in which this tool is used, such as the Synesthesia Vision glasses, which detect obstacles above the waist, complementing the cane, along with the relationship of this object with sustainability and tests conducted with a equipment composed of a VL53L1X sensor to verify its viability. Thus, demonstrating how this technology has the potential to improve the quality of life of visually impaired people.
