The news of Gibran Rakabuming Raka as the vice president-elect was widely discussed in the mass media because it caused pros and cons related to his candidacy so that it became the spotlight of the community, especially students. Through reception analysis, this study aims to analyze the acceptance of Muhammadiyah University of Sidoarjo students of the news of Gibran as vice president-elect 2024 on CNN Indonesia. This research uses descriptive qualitative research. Data collection was carried out using interview, observation, and documentation techniques. The research analysis uses Stuart Hall's reception analysis which explains that there are three categories of audience meaning, namely dominant, negotiation, and opposition positions. The results showed that each student has a different interpretation. Three informants are in the dominant position, one informant is in the negotiation position, two informants are in the opposition position. The differences are caused by different backgrounds, experiences, and knowledge.
