Abstract Objective This study aimed to evaluate maxillary sinus volume in Han Chinese adults with unilateral cleft lip and palate. Methods The maxillary sinus volumes of 50 Han Chinese adult unilateral cleft lip and palate (UCLP) patients and 53 age- and sex-matched control (non-cleft) individuals were measured on CT three-dimensional reconstructed images using Mimics software, and the results were compared and analyzed. Results 1. There was no statistically significant difference in the maxillary sinus volume between the cleft side and the non-cleft side in the UCLP group (P > 0.05). 2. There was no statistically significant difference in the volume of the left and right maxillary sinuses between the two groups (P > 0.05).3. The left and right maxillary sinus volume of male in the UCLP group was significantly higher than that of the female group (P < 0.05).4. There was a significant correlation between left and right maxillary sinus volume in UCLP group (P < 0.05). Conclusion There was no significant difference in maxillary sinus volume between Han Chinese adult patients with unilateral cleft lip and palate and healthy adults, nor was there a significant difference in maxillary sinus volume between the cleft side and the non-cleft side of cleft lip and palate patients. However, the maxillary sinus volume of male patients was significantly larger than that of female patients. The presence of unilateral cleft lip and palate had no significant effect on maxillary sinus volume in Han Chinese adults.
