It has long been thought that ovarian cancer cannot be prevented by prophylactic screening or surgery. In recent years, gynecologists have adapted to new principles and so, during routine hysterectomies in perimenopausal women for benign uterine pathologies, salpingo-oophorectomy is performed as a prophylactic approach.
