Abstract There is a trend in public worldwide to use ceramic tiles in domestic decoration , monitoring the radiation risk for individuals due to used ceramic materials is needed. The current study aims at assessing the radiological impact to individuals associated with natural radioactivity levels in ceramic materials. The specific activity of natural radionuclides was measured in the investigated ceramic materials using high purity germanium detector gamma spectrometry (HPGe) with 25% coaxial efficiency. The raw materials of the ceramic are made of a mixture of bicarbonate perc, clay, feldspar, glass sand, limestone, talc, kaolin minerals, and zalouky and zirconium silicates. The Radium equivalent activity, annual effective dose, and external hazard indexes (Hex) and excess cancer life risk (ECLR) were assessed using standard protocols. The present results indicated that the annual effective dose resulting from ²²⁶Ra, ²³²Th, ⁴⁰K is within dose constrains and lower than the public dose limit recommended by ICRP.
