Abstract Classic DNA electrophoresis systems such as TAE and TBE have been known for being inferior and not fit for purpose and superseded by dedicated systems such as sodium borate and lithium acetate. Lithium and borate have disadvantages of price and toxicity to the environment respectively. With the popularisation of 3D printed gel tanks, the author proposes a gel system composed of common household items, namely monosodium Glutamate and cream of Tartar. The GT gel system is shown to have sufficient resolving power, speed, utility, and cost structure for any starting molecular biology lab or home lab.
