Introduction: the author analyses doctrinal approaches to the definition “legal mechanisms” developed by legal theory, finds the lack of a uniform approach in the study of the analyzed concept using such methodologies as systemic, axiological, phenomenological which has a negative impact on the field and theory-legal studies. The field of legal studies, as it is currently understood, is marked by a structural and functional approach to investigating legal phenomena, legal conditions, and legal elaboration. This approach has not focused on the phenomena under study as coherent in view of the nature of the connections between structural elements, which defines qualitative indicators of legal mechanisms in particular. Materials and Methods: the author relied on the works of Russian researchers, such as V.P. Mahalov, T.N. Radko, K.V. Shundikov, G.S. Belyaeva and others, used general scientific methods (the method of analysis, comparison, deduction), as well as system-structural methodological approach. Results: in a consideration of legal mechanisms through the system methodology, the author focuses on the fact that subsystems and their elements are interconnected which determines some influence on social relationship as external environment. It is stated that legal mechanisms are characterized by trends of qualitative and quantitative changes, qualitative ones are more complicated to study and have a “hidden” nature. The author examines the legal character of the phenomena under consideration. Discussion and Conclusions: the system marker of integrity of the legal mechanisms is considered under the phenomenon. The author states that subsystems of the legal mechanism are interconnected through various intersystem connections that ensure the integrity of the mechanism consequently the systemity. The maximum limit of dissection of mechanisms, i.e. an element, is a legal norm. There is also a certain inconsistency inherent in legal mechanisms.
