In order to obtain the material model parameters for numerical simulation of the ballistic performance of high nitrogen austenitic stainless steel (HNASS) perforated armour, the static and dynamic mechanical properties and material fracture experiments of HNASS have been carried out. Parameters for the Johnson-Cook constitutive and failure model were then adjusted based on the experimental findings. The penetration process of perforated armour against 12.7 mm armour-piercing incendiary shells (API) was simulated by AUTODYN software and the simulation results were compared with the ballistic test results. The findings indicate that using model parameters acquired from mechanical experiments for penetration simulation results in matching failure modes of the perforated armor and penetration depths of body armor with test outcomes, confirming the reliability of the model parameters.
