Introduction Capacity building and supervision were the main activities for strengthening the health team among primary care units. (PCUs) in Thailand. However, the COVID-19 pandemic has caused disruptions and uncertainty to organizations worldwide. The transition from in-person interaction to virtual and online communication—are everyday part of the work even though the COVID-19 has become endemic. This basic occupational health (OH) online training course was designed for staff of PCUs to access the course conveniently. Methods The research and development was conducted during January 2022- November 2023. It is composed of 4 phases including 1) OHS project reviews, 2) course development, 3) creating a storyboard and the learning system, and 4) try out system and improvement. Results The course has 12 hours and 8 subjects including OH policy, health hazards and walkthrough survey, risk assessment and control, common occupational diseases (OD), OHS for community workers, OD recording, OH and safety laws and OD control laws. The learning platform was designed and established through the DDC E-learning system of the Department of Disease Control. The learning platform such as the color, the font size, the sequence of the content and the overall of the entire course were improved after we tested the system. Discussion The limited knowledge of health personnel on OH issues could be fulfilled with this course before moving to the other advanced courses. Conclusions The course is the useful channel to enhance PCUs’ staff competency for effective OHS delivery. However, the feedback from the trainee is crucial to improve the course continually.
