Introduction Anaemia affects the overall productivity of an individual and may lead to an unsafe condition at workplace. A non-invasive, portable, screening device for detecting anaemia, contributed to planning necessary mitigation measures for eradicating anaemia from workplace. Materials and methods IndianOil with its 31,000 employees comprising of both male and female workforce, operates 24/7 to provide energy access to millions of people across India. To address the issue of anaemia amongst workforce, a point-of-care non-invasive device was positioned in each Refinery unit. The device determines the Hb% level of an individual, with the help of an app which analyzes the intensity of reflection of a cool white LED light, and information of individuals such as personal, socio-demographic, pregnancy history, family history, medical history, and lifestyle habits to give the results within a minute. The portable device assisted in quickly screening the large number of workforce and analyzing their Hb% levels. This helped the management to plan anaemia control strategies as per the observations. Result The Hb% level data measured using the device showed association between dietary habits and prevalence of anaemia. The prevalence of anaemia was also found significantly among female workforces. Discussion Improper diet, lack of proper hygiene leading to infections are some of the major factors that contribute to anaemia. Timely screening and steps for mitigating iron deficiency are major step towards anaemia eradication. Conclusion Anaemia results in symptoms such as fatigue, weakness, dizziness, etc. Implementation of necessary mitigation measures for combating anaemia, helps to increase productivity and eliminate un-safe conditions at workplace.
