This session will explore the nature and importance of the values that give meaning to people’s lives and their work. Speakers from different countries will present how core values can be brought to everyday work to promote worker wellbeing. Specific practices will be offered that support formal and informal workers, across different cultures and societies, with examples in mental health, training, SMEs, and work culture. Session participants will be offered an awareness and knowledge of core values to better understand the roots and factors that contribute to a positive and healthy work environment. Different perspectives will provide examples of practices that can be brought to the worksite for “closing the gaps” in worker health emphasized in this ICOH Congress. Participants will be introduced to this field within occupational health that has not been fully developed up to now. They will learn why core values at work are fundamental for large and small companies to support their workers and fulfil their social responsibilities, thus building a sound foundation for each organization. By using these tools, professionals in occupational health have a key role to play to develop these measures and apply core values to protect workers’ health and promote their wellbeing. In addition, this Core Values session is acting in partnership with the SCOHSSEIS Special Session — SDG8 Decent Work: Healthy Workplaces for Vulnerable Workers — helping to introduce how core values can strengthen the foundation of Decent Work to improve workplace health for SMEs and informal workers.
