This study analyzed how Chairman Kim Jong-un’s image has changed for North Korea’s New Year’s address TV broadcast from 2013 to 2019. In his first TV New Year’s address in 2013, Chairman Kim Jong-un showed an uneasy image due to his inexperience and lack of gaze, but since then, his appearance and attitude have matured and transformed into an image of a power heir. Through the introduction of broadcasting equipment, the use of press photos and videos, and the imitation of New Year’s address broadcasts in major countries, North Korea has diluted Kim Jong- un’s negative image and actively paved the positive image of the people. However, as shown in the image of Kim Jong-un on a white horse, North Korea’s personal idolization still remains, so there is a limit to seeing the change in the New Year’s address broadcast as a fundamental change in the North’s propaganda.
