Introduction: The current study aimed to discuss the efficacy of mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) in direct pulp capping (DPC) in terms of the histological effect after mechanical pulp exposure of immature premolars of Mongrel dogs Methods: For histological analysis, a spilt-mouth design was used in which 24 immature premolars of three healthy 2-3 years-old Mongrel dogs were mechanically exposed and capped with MTA. After 3 months, animals were sacrificed, and stained specimens (hematoxylin and eosin) were examined for inflammatory cell reactions and hard tissue formation Chisquare and Fisher's exact tests were used to compare the histological success rates Results: Histologically, MTA material showed no inflammatory cells after 3 months, while hard tissue was significantly superior in the MTA. Conclusions: MTA is a biocompatible material with a favorable pulp tissue response in terms of the absence of an inflammatory cell reaction a small amount of calcified tissue formation after 3 months. MTA is an effective treatment option in the DPC of carious, immature permanent teeth.
