Comprehending the mechanisms that impact Ecosystem Services (ESs) is vital for fostering sustainable development in regions. This study quantified six ESs in the Pearl River Delta region (PRD) for the years 2000 and 2020. This study selected eight factors, considering both natural and human perspectives, to assess their impact on ESs using the random forest method. The study utilized the Geographically and Temporally Weighted Regression (GTWR) model to investigate the spatiotemporal variations in factors affecting ESs. Results indicate that the spatial change of ESs differs between 2000 and 2020. In 2000, natural factors prevailed in regional ESs, but by 2020, human factors gradually took over this dominance. The spatiotemporal heterogeneity of factors influencing ESs is distinctly different, providing insights to enhance the ecological sustainability of the region.
