This study investigates the moderating effects of government support and tourism dependency on the relationship between knowledge and resident support for sport tourism development in Indonesia.A quantitative approach was employed, using purposive random sampling to collect data from 237 local residents through a Google form questionnaire. The data were analyzed using SmartPLS.The results revealed that knowledge about sport tourism had a significant positive influence on resident support.Tourism dependency was found to moderate the influence of knowledge on resident support, with destinations heavily reliant on sports tourism having more engaged local communities.Government support also moderated the relationship between resident support and future sport tourism development, reinforcing the positive impact of local community support. The findings highlight the importance of considering tourism dependency and government support in developing sustainable sport tourism strategies. This study contributes to the understanding of the complex interplay between knowledge, tourism dependency, resident support, and government support in shaping the future of sport tourism development in Indonesia.
