Damping off disease of chilli seedlings, a serious disease caused by Pythium aphanidermatum (Edson) Fitz. occurs in field extensively. This pathogen causes severe loss to the production of tuber as the crop destroyed at the time of seedlings. In susceptible plants seedlings losses of 25 to 75% can occur. The cost of the some of the private bred seed is very high and hence this loss assumes ecocomic importance to farmers. The present paper deals with symptoms, pathogenecity, host range etc. studies of damping off disease off chilli seedlings.
