This paper explores the theoretical frameworks, constituent features and evaluation strategies for Whole School Approaches (WSA) to tackling gender based violence (GBV). Overall, we argue that change is often insufficiently and inconsistently theorised within WSAs to GBV. In turn, a significant degree of variation emerges in programme design and delivery. This variation frustrates the identification of cohesive characteristics of effective WSAs to GBV within schools, which in turn, may hinder the uptake and subsequent impact of these programmes in the real world.
