Podostemaceae members show peculiar inter-generic similarities and intraspecific variations so that there is difference of opinion among taxonomists regarding their systematic position. Hydrobryopsis sessilis and Zeylanidium lichenoides are two members of this family which show many similarities and some differences.The present investigation analyses these similarities and differences inorder to clarify the controversies regarding their taxonomic position.
