The quality of the grid current injected by photovoltaic (PV) microinverters must comply with international standards. Hence, the controller and the converter must be designed to comply with grid current standards. Regarding the current control techniques, many control strategies can be applied to fulfill the quality requisites of a PV microinverter operation. Although more complex strategies may improve current, they require more computational effort and memory. This paper presents the design and implementation of five different discrete controllers of a grid‐tied microinverter. Experimental results of a comparison between the grid's current quality and the computational effort of the implemented control law are provided.
