This article, for the first time in domestic African studies, analyzes in detail such a complex phenomenon as slavery and its significance for the peoples of Ethiopia. Slavery existed in Ethiopia for many centuries. The economic, social and political life of the country entirely depended on it. The source of slaves were wars, raids, raids. Prisoners of war and debtors were turned into slaves for non-payment of taxes and committed crimes. Attempts to end slavery were made in 1854 and 1884. Slavery was finally banned in 1942. However, its echoes are still alive today - the descendants of slaves are still subjected to discrimination today.
