This article is mutually complementary to our previous article, in which we had discussed the use of some psychotropic drugs outside of the field of psychiatry – in various subspecialties of somatic medicine. Following the tradition of that article, within the framework of this article we aimed to apply a provocative «mirror» approach, focusing on the use in psychiatry of the seemingly very distantly related to it drugs, such as cytotoxic drugs, antibiotics, antiprotozoals, anticoagulants, etc. We did not describe in this article some drugs from somatic medicine, the use of which in psychiatry is already widely known and/or was described in our book «Depression and Treatment Resistance» – for example, anti-inflammatory and anti-cytokine drugs, hormones, insulin sensitizers, vitamins and micronutrients, alpha- and beta-blockers, etc. This article is intended to broaden the horizon views of psychiatrists regarding the existing possibilities of using some non-psychotropic drugs in psychiatry and/or of overcoming the resistance of psychiatric patients to standard psychopharmacotherapy.
