Abstract Enterococcus faecalis (E. faecalis) are the most common bacterial species in resistant or recurrent infections due to its penetration in deep dentinal layers which is difficult to clean leading to endodontic treatment failures . It comprises 6% of total flora in root canals and is seen in 22- 77% of root canal retreatment cases owing to the virulence factors it possesses. Thus, intracanal medication between appointments is recommended to further reduce bacteria in the root canal system. The aim of the present study is to evaluate the antibacterial efficacy and biocompatibility of Ca(OH)2, CPCP and a combination of Ca(OH)2 and CPCP as root canal dressing against E. faecalis in single rooted mandibular premolars compared to teeth with empty canals.
