Endoplasmic reticulum stress (ERS) is a stress response from a cellular perspective. When unfolded or misfolded proteins accumulate in the lumen of the endoplasmic reticulum, they can induce the occurrence of ERS. Imbalance in the intracellular environment are not only pathological links that induce cardiovascular diseases such as hypertension, but also important factors that trigger endoplasmic reticulum stress. Modern research has found that endoplasmic reticulum stress induced pathological changes in hypertension are similar to the pathological phenomenon of "pulse distension" in traditional Chinese medicine. Therefore, from the perspective of endoplasmic reticulum stress, this paper explores the theory and biological connotations of "pulse distension" in hypertension, and provides new ideas for the prevention and treatment of hypertension from the perspective of clinical efficacy.
