Abstract

The research studies the performance of collective memory in 「Grand Finale」 works based on the theory of collective memory proposed by Maurice Halbwachs. Hofesh Shechter is one of the most popular modern dance choreographers today. Hofesh Shechter's works are unique and personalized in style, full of drama and clever expression of emotion. His works pay high attention to social issues and human nature, and often arouse the resonance and thinking of the audience. This paper argues that the success of this work is closely related to the collective memory. Through the analysis of the theme, choreography style and representative work of 「Grand Finale」, we can find the way of shaping the collective memory of the modern dance works. It can also be used to understand the role of collective memory in arousing the audience in modern dance works.
