The article draws attention to the importance of preserving and protecting traditional spiritual and moral values in modern Russia, one of which, according to the author, must include the traditional Russian name, which includes not only the surname and first name, but also the patronymic, which performs a nationally identifying function (sign of Russianness). It is emphasized that the cases in Russia today of assigning a match to a child instead of a patronymic as isolated ones do not have any special consequences, however, if they occur on a large scale, they can trigger a negative process of undermining and destroying established traditional family values and moving away from Orthodox traditions passed on from generation to generation.
