Bailey and Barley [1] present an initial look at the interaction of technology, work, and organizations. Their comments for the most part are well taken but stop far short of the sort of imaginative and innovative follow up that the topic deserves. In part this is because, for better or worse, the authors cleave fairly strictly to naming issues addressed by the referenced underlying studies rather than infer from their content and extending into more interesting and radical, though perhaps difficult and uncomfortable questions. The paper presented here attempts to push further along the path of interpreting the findings that Bailey and Barley assembled.
