The Commelina erecta, L. biomass‑silver nanocomposite, serves as a reusable catalyst for the efficient degradation of methylene blue. The high surface area and phytochemicals present in the biomass facilitate the synthesis of silver nanoparticles, which act as a catalyst in the degradation of methylene blue. Calcination of nanocomposite enhanced the adsorption of methylene blue on the biomass‑silver nanoparticle composite surface. Through optimization of reaction parameters, effective degradation of 150 ppm methylene blue is achieved using a 1 mg/ml catalyst in reaction mixture. The Commelina erecta, L. biomass nanocomposite stands as an eco-friendly, efficient solution for methylene blue degradation. This study shows the synthesis of biomass‑silver nanocomposites utilizing antioxidant compounds derived from the waste plant biomass of Commelina erecta, L for the first time. Moreover, the remarkable efficacy of these synthesized biomass‑silver nanocomposites in degrading methylene blue presents novel opportunities for their potential application in the remediation of wastewater-containing toxic dyes.
