New unconventional compensated magnets have been discovered in the wake of altermagnets. We introduce a minimal tight-binding model with a spin-split p-wave band structure, clarifying the relation between unconventional p-wave magnets and helimagnets. Motivated by the tight-binding model, we construct an effective model suitable for analytical calculations. We evaluate the tunneling conductance in junctions with p-wave magnets, revealing a large magnetoresistance despite the absence of a net magnetization. The bulk transport properties reveal anisotropic spin conductivity beyond linear response. These results show that unconventional p-wave magnets offer several useful functionalities for spintronics devices.
