Significant changes in the structure and nature of consumption in distribution networks are causing significant challenges for distribution network operators. To maintain a high level of reliability and security of supply, the operation of a low-voltage network in the near future has to be supported by sophisticated optimization and control algorithms. However, the low voltage network is a challenging environment, involving a large number of different network participants. The large number of controlled entities makes the optimization and control of this type of network a difficult task. To decrease the complexity of the problem, a clustering technique is presented. The proposed clustering technique allows aggregation of individual network participants into several groups (clusters), that can be controlled as a single entity while respecting the impacts of individual network participants on the network operation. The presented clustering technique is demonstrated on a sample network based on a real low-voltage feeder.
