The article discusses the heapsort algorithm based on creating a nongrowing heap from an array of data and further operations with it. Its efficiency is compared with other sorting algorithms based on the obtained data on the time of completion of its task for different inputs of each algorithm. The selected edge cases of the input data are rather artificial, however, they can occur to varying degrees in real conditions of using sorting algorithms. Using these edge cases, visual results were obtained on the effectiveness of each of the sorting algorithms for different input data structures. Based on a comparison of the results of each of the algorithms in edge cases, the main advantages and disadvantages inherent in the heapsort algorithm are revealed. Recommendations for its use in various input data structures are proposed. It also provides recommendations on the use of the heapsort sorting algorithm in energy system management and information processing in the energy sector.
