Linguistic analysis explores dialectal features and discrepancies in historical texts, highlighting significance for text reconstruction.
The article presents the results of linguistic analysis of the text of The Tale of the Siege of Tikhvin Monastery based on the copy from the Tikhonravov Collection of the Russian State Library, F.299, No. 133: a number of dialectal features reflected in the manuscript are described, which makes it possible to localize the scribe's speech on the territory of Tikhvin Posad with a high degree of probability; the use of verb forms and syntactic constructions that indicate the bookish nature of the language and the level of linguistic competence of the writer is analyzed; by means of a comparative analysis of the copy of "The Tale" and the text of the Novgorod Third Chronicle, published in the Complete Collection of Russian Chronicles, the substantive side of the text under study is characterized, and discrepancies, erroneous readings and omissions in the Complete Collection of Russian Chronicles copy are identified. The data obtained can be used to reconstruct the history of the text of "The Tale".
