The article raises the problem of the formation of a rather narrow sphere of semantic space of fairy tales by A. S. Pushkin - the achromatic world. This is the semantic content of the text, represented by denotative sememes of lexemes that reflect the direct perception of white, gray and black colors. It is revealed which color lexemes includes in Pushkin famous fairy tales; a comparison is made with the use of color words in Russian fairy tales. This helps to determine what extent the author's choice is influenced by the language of the folk tale. The question about "non-color" meanings is also discussed. It is established that the use of lexemes that denote achromatic colors in the literary tale by A. S. Pushkin is oriented toward the color lexemes in the Russian folk tale. This linguistic phenomenon is not a product of external stylization alone. The semantic content of lexemes with the roots bel-, ser-, chern-, etc. develops in accordance with the author’s intention, but in line with the folklore tradition.
