Background. Initial astigmatism in cataract phacoaspiration in children reduces the effectiveness of amblyopia treatment, therefore, the use of laxative incisions during surgery or post-surgical correction methods is required to correct ametropia. The creation of thoric intraocular lenses (TIOL) made it possible to correct concomitant astigmatism intraoperatively. Purpose. To evaluate the clinical and functional results of cataract phacoaspiration with TIOL implantation in children. Material and methods. This study included 49 children (49 eyes) aged 3 to 11 years who underwent cataract phacoaspiration with implantation of AcrySof Toric SN60 TIOL. Results. In the postoperative period, there was a significant increase in uncorrected and maximally corrected visual acuity compared with preoperative values. The cylindrical component of refraction decreased from -2,50D (-4,25; -1,5) to -1,0D (-1,25; -0,75) (p = 0,001). Retinal visual acuity increased 4 times and amounted to 0,63 (0,32; 0,80) by the end of the follow-up period. The follow-up period was 1 month. Conclusions. Cataract phacoaspiration with TIOL implantation in children is an effective method of correcting astigmatism, which allows creating favorable conditions for the development of visual functions.
