DC-DC converters are commonly employed in a series-series (SS) compensated wireless power transfer (WPT) receiver for regulating the output voltage. Although DC-DC converters are extremely familiar to the power electronics community, their characteristics become quite different in a WPT receiver system due to its current-source input and the resultant varying input voltage nature. This uniqueness demands further investigation and a more in-depth understanding of DC-DC converters in the WPT system. Such research is important especially when the efficiency and dynamic requirements for the WPT system become higher. This paper focuses on the modeling, stability analysis, and control of DC-DC converters in a SS-compensated WPT receiver. Some interesting findings are presented, and their implications on the parameter and controller design are discussed. The proposed design is well supported with simulation verification.
