As artificial intelligence gained the ability to generate comprehensible images and started to be implemented in many sectors, it is worth reflecting on this novel technology’s potential for referencing in architectural design. Therefore, a recent image-generating AI (›Dall-E 2‹ by OpenAI) is evaluated regarding reference generation or manipulation. Examining the produced images, the system reveals its reference-based limits but also leads the way into new realms of machine-aided inspiration.
