BACKGROUND: To explore the effects of physical activity (PA) on negative emotion (NE) in obese adolescents and the mediating role of body image (BI) and mental resilience (MR) in the relationship between PA and NE.METHODS: The Physical Activity Rating Scale, Body Image State Scale, Chinese Short Version of Depression Anxiety and Stress Scale and Connor Davidson Resilience Scale were used to conduct a questionnaire survey on 32 obese adolescents, and the data were processed and analyzed using SPSS v. 25.0 and Amos v. 24.0 software were used for data processing and analysis.RESULTS: PA had a significant negative predictive effect on NE (β=-0.35, P<0.01), PA had a significant positive predictive effect on BI (β=0.31, P<0.001) and a significant positive predictive effect on MR (β=0.37, P<0.001); BI and MR played a significant mediating role between PA and NE, and the mediating effect consisted of the independent mediating effect of BI, MR and the chain mediating effect between them. independent mediating effects and chain mediating effects between them, with effect values of 0.10, 0.02 and 0.16, respectively, each accounting for 28.6%, 5.7% and 17.1% of the total effect, with all mediating effects being statistically different.CONCLUSIONS: PA has a positive contribution to NE in obese adolescents and there is a chain mediating effect of BI and MR between PA and NE in obese adolescents.
