The operational costs of cardiovascular services are of great interest to health care systems and the public at large. Measures implemented to increase efficiency are highly sought after with new innovative technologies constantly being developed and deployed. This study examines the revenue of a hybrid angio-CT (4DCT) system, with integrated interventional suite and one-beat whole-heart computed tomography (CT), over a study period of 1.5 years in a academic non-university health care system. Methods: All cases performed in the Alphenix 4DCT suite between January 2021 – June 2022 were included and classified as diagnostic CT cases and interventional cases. The charges of performed diagnostic and interventional studies were estimated based on national average Medicare rate. Results: A total of 2077 cases were included, 75% of which were CT only cases and 25% interventional cases. The interventional cases included 32% cardiac catheterizations, 28% Left atrial appendage closures, 16% transcatheter aortic valve replacements, and 16% pacemaker implants. Although CT volume was 3 times higher than the interventional volume, the total diagnosis revenue was only 1/3 of the total interventional revenue. Based on the national average Medicare rate, the 4DCT suite generated close to $15M revenue per annum. Conclusions: Operating a novel 4DCT suite is financially feasible. The 4DCT suite offers both CT and interventional services, increases the cardiac CT throughput, diversifies interventional case mix, and creates more flexibility in patient scheduling.
