Patients in cardiogenic shock (c shock) continue to have delayed recognition and access to multidisciplinary specialized care resulting in adverse outcome. Our program recognized the need of a c shock program to serve this patient population and implemented a formal c shock program in February of 2022. A multidisciplinary team comprised of interventional and heart failure cardiologist, intensivist, CT surgeon, MCS coordinator, care comm was organized in 2022, a c shock algorithm and one touch activation were put in place and a c shock program was initiated at Tampa General Hospital, a 1000 bed academic facility. We analyzed the outcome of c shock patients pre and post initiation of the c shock program as well as volume and disposition. 554 c shock alerts were called between February 2022 and December of 2023 on 295 patients. 15 pts received and LVAD, 21 pts received a heart transplant, 121 pts recovered and survived to discharge, accounting for a survival rate of 53% (157/295 pts). 138 pts expired, 47%. In 2022 there were 204 alerts on 126 pts. 8 pts received an LVAD, 7 had a heart transplant, 42 recovered and survived to discharge, for a total of 57 patients, with a survival rate of 45%. 69 pts expired, 55%. In 2023 there were 350 alerts on 169 pts. 7 received an LVAD, 14 received a heart transplant, and 79 pts recovered and survived to discharge, accounting for 100 pts with a survival rate of 59%, better than national c shock survival. 69 pts expired, 41%. Implementation of a robust c shock program with a multidisciplinary team, one touch activation, clear and easy algorithm to follow leads to improved recovery and survival in this high morbidity and mortality population.
