Balloon catheters are often used for pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) in treating atrial fibrillation (AF) due to their procedural efficiency. In addition to the established cryo-balloon (CB) catheter, there exists a novel multi-electrode radiofrequency balloon catheter (RFB, Heliostar, Biosense Webster, Irvine, CA, USA) with 3D mapping integration. Currently, there is a lack of evidence comparing RFB-PVI and CB-PVI in a matched population.
