Gouty arthritis, a prevalent metabolic disorder, arises due to elevated levels of blood uric acid [1].This condition results from the deposition of urate crystals within the joints, bones, and adjacent tissues, which initiates an inflammatory response. In recent years, as lifestyles have changed and dietary structures have been adjusted, the incidence rate of gouty arthritis has been increasing, which has severely affected the quality of life and health of patients. Although conventional medications in Western medicine are widely prescribed, they often have numerous adverse reactions, a high rate of recurrence upon discontinuation, and are difficult to control in the progression of diseases, leading to reduced patient compliance with treatment. The external treatment of traditional Chinese medicine is increasingly valued in the treatment of gouty arthritis, especially the application of traditional Chinese medicine. With its advantages of simple operation, long-lasting effect, high safety, and significant therapeutic effect, it has received widespread attention. Traditional Chinese medicine external therapy has been paid more and more attention in the treatment of gouty arthritis, especially the external application of traditional Chinese medicine, which has attracted widespread attention due to its advantages of simple operation, lasting effect, high safety, and remarkable curative effect. The purpose of this study is to analyze the current research status of both domestic and foreign scholars regarding the treatment of gouty arthritis through the external application of traditional Chinese medicine. It aims to systematically review relevant literature and integrate this with the current actual treatment situation to facilitate further research.
