Rheumatoid arthritis is an intractable systemic autoimmune disease with unknown etiology and is challenging to cure, often leading to swelling, pain, and deformation of small joints in patients, and can even result in disability, significantly affecting the quality of life of the patients. Currently, the treatment options for RA remain relatively limited, and there is an urgent need to find new therapeutic approaches. As research into this disease by traditional Chinese medicine and Western medicine continues to deepen, combining multiple therapeutic methods has shown positive effects. This paper reviews the progress of combining traditional Chinese medicine and mesenchymal stem cell therapy in treating rheumatoid arthritis.
