Abstract Apomixis enables plants to produce seeds genetically identical to the parent, promising transformative prospects in plant breeding. Although autonomous synthetic apomixis has been successfully implemented in monocotyledonous rice, it has yet to be realized in other species, especially dicots. In this study, we achieved autonomous clonal seed production in Arabidopsis via genome editing, establishing the feasibility of autonomous synthetic apomixis in dicots and providing a novel and promising approach for utilizing heterosis in dicotyledonous crops.
