Introduction Oropharyngeal carcinomas make up the majority of tumors in the head and neck region and are often localized in the tonsil region. For tumors confined to the tonsil, histological confirmation can be performed either by local sampling (PE) or tonsillectomy (TE). The aim of this study was to compare both procedures with regard to therapeutic and prognostic criteria.
