This paper presents the design and hardware implementation of a DC-DC converter operating in continuous conduction mode (CCM) intended to provide wide voltage conversion and improved current capability for ultracapacitor charging application. The design method of the converter is analysed for a desired output voltage and current, based on the voltage and current ripple specifications. Steady state performance of the converter is studied based on the hardware open loop configuration. A constant current mode control loop is designed to study the dynamic performance of the converter in closed-loop simulation using MATLAB/Simulink environment. Experimental and simulation waveforms are illustrated for validation of the designed converter along with efficiency calculation.
