Digital training of engineering personnel is today a priority task for the development of the education system, since the need for specialists capable of working, designing and creating information systems of an applied engineering nature is high in all sectors of the technological economy of the world. The development of training specialists in the field of digitalization of engineering activities is currently chaotic. There is a penetration of the profession in the field of information and computer technology into all engineering specialties and the need for multi-level digital literacy for specialists in various industries is being formed.This article attempts to substantiate the need to include modules for practice-oriented digital training of engineering personnel in educational programs. Two tasks were considered as part of the ongoing research. First, the prerequisites for the formation of requirements for specialists in engineering professions based on changes in the economy of the country and the development of the sixth technological order. The second is the justification of the structural minimum for the competencies of engineering personnel in the context of practice-oriented labor market requirements for young professionals for the Russian industrial complex. The article provides an overview of the state of the problem and presents options for its solution based on the concept of sustainable development.
