In this paper, sharpened multispectral VIIRS-NTL data are considered for the flared gas volume estimations task. Such data, with their finer spatial resolution obtained by using MODIS images, are intended to provide better localization of flare flames. Thus, these sharpened data are expected to provide improved estimations of flared gas volumes via some estimated physical flare parameters by means of a spectral-unmixing-based approach. Experiments are carried out on an oil installation located in the South of Algeria. Estimated flare gas volumes are compared with in-situ measurements, and these estimates are better than those obtained by using non-sharpened VIIRS-NTL data.
